Edith Schollwer

Biography:

Edith Lisette Juliane Hermine Schollwer was an actress known for Ein verdienter Staatsmann (1962), Der bunte Traum (1952) and Die rote Hand (1960). She was born on February 12th 1904 in Berlin, Germany, and died on October 1st 2002. She was married to Carl Jöken. Schollwer was a leading German actress and singer, first on stage in 1927 with the Hamburger Flora-Varieté as a soubrette. She appeared in Berlin revues, cabaret and operettas, often in partnership with Richard Tauber. Popular in the 1950's and 60's in Berlin cabaret ("Die Insulaner"), she would appear on radio broadcasts for station RIAS and as a film and television character actress. She was famous for her "Insulaner Song", which became an anthem for the beleaguered citizens of West Berlin at the height of the Cold War. Schollwer also provided the dubbing voice for Margaret Rutherford, Angela Lansbury, Thelma Ritter and Mabel Albertson.
