Biography:

Born on July 4, 1971 at the San Francisco Zoo as Hanabiko (Japanese for "Fireworks child"). Koko the Gorilla became a celebrity when she allegedly learned ASL (American Sign Language) and was able to communicate with humans and show emotion.
